Bringing home a Maine Coon kitten is a thrilling experience filled with excitement and a bit of nervous anticipation. The day you finally meet your new furry family member is unforgettable. This guide walks you through what to expect on pickup day, from the first meeting to settling your kitten into their new home.
What to expect on pickup day?

Meeting Your Maine Coon Kitten in Person
Even if you have seen plenty of photos or videos of your kitten, nothing compares to the moment you meet them face to face. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed at the Maine Coon Manor building where your kitten lives. This is a special opportunity to see the environment where your kitten was raised and to meet their parents.
You will also get a chance to tour the cattery, which helps you understand the care and socialization your kitten has received. This is especially important, as it shows the quality of the breeder’s environment.
At this meeting, all paperwork will be ready for you, along with a bag containing your kitten’s food, toys, and other essentials. The kitten will come home in a secure carrier, ensuring their safety during the trip.

The First Moments and Ride Home
The journey home is a crucial time for your kitten. Some Maine Coon kittens may be a little nervous or sleepy, while others might vocalize their feelings with soft meows. It’s normal for a kitten to act shy or cautious during this transition.
To make the ride comfortable:
Keep the carrier secure and stable in your vehicle.
Avoid loud music or sudden noises.
Do not open the carrier until you are safely inside your home or car.
Remember, some kittens behave as if strangers are a threat until they feel safe. Our cats and kittens are well socialized with people of all ages because we have a large family, but your kitten may still need time to adjust to new scents, faces, and surroundings.
Settling Your Maine Coon Kitten at Home
Once home, introduce your kitten to a small, kitten-proofed room first. This controlled space allows them to explore safely without feeling overwhelmed. Set up the essentials in this room:
A clean litter box
Fresh water
The same food they have been eating (a sample will be provided)
A cozy bed and a few toys
Give your kitten time to explore and get comfortable. Expect a few days of adjustment as they learn the layout and settle into their new environment.
Tips for a Smooth Transition
To help your Maine Coon kitten thrive in their new home, keep these tips in mind:
Schedule the first vet visit within 3 to 5 days after pickup to ensure your kitten’s health and address any questions.
Stick to the same food and litter for at least two weeks before gradually introducing any changes. This helps avoid digestive upset.
Reach out to your breeder with any questions or concerns. Support doesn’t end at pickup; it’s the start of a lifelong relationship.
If you are searching for a Maine Coon kitten, choosing a breeder who offers ongoing support can make all the difference.
What Makes Maine Coon Kittens Special
Maine Coons are known for their gentle personalities, large size, and luxurious coats. They are often described as “gentle giants” and are great companions for families and individuals alike. Because of their social nature, they benefit from early interaction with people and other pets.
Our kittens are raised in a family environment, which means they are used to children, adults, and our dog. This socialization helps them adapt quickly to new homes, even if they initially show some hesitation.
Bazil, our 3-year-old pup loves playing with the cats. Kittens' interaction is limited with him. He is a sweet and playful 70 lb dog. He gets excited to see them and doesn't realize how big he really is.
Maine Coons kittens can adapt to other pets in your home.
